THIS POSITION IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Overview:
Skillionaire Games is looking for a skilled Narrative Designer to join our team on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will enhance the narrative structure of our games, particularly focusing on how industry knowledge (such as equipment functionality, minigame contexts, and relevance to real-world applications) is conveyed to players. This role involves improving the game and its story-driven onboarding experience (FTUE) to ensure players understand how game mechanics and the narrative tie together, delivering both immersion and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Industry Knowledge Integration:
Refine and expand in-game narratives that accurately represent industry tools, equipment, and knowledge while making them engaging and understandable to players.

  • Minigame Contextualization:
Create compelling narratives around minigames, explaining their relevance to real-world skills and tasks, helping players understand why these mechanics matter.

  • FTUE Development:
Design and improve first-time user experiences (FTUE), ensuring new players can smoothly transition into the game world, understand gameplay mechanics, and grasp the significance of their actions through well-crafted narrative guidance.

  • Narrative Cohesion:
Collaborate with designers and developers to ensure the game's story flows consistently with gameplay, reinforcing player engagement while delivering knowledge relevant to the game’s theme.

  • Documentation:
Produce clear, detailed narrative design documentation that outlines story arcs, character development, and the integration of real-world industry knowledge into gameplay mechanics.

Qualifications:

  • Narrative Design Experience:
Proven experience in narrative design for video games, with a strong understanding of how to blend story and gameplay.

  • Industry Knowledge:
Ability to research and understand technical or industry-specific topics (such as manufacturing processes or equipment usage) and translate them into engaging game narratives.

  • FTUE Expertise:
Experience in designing effective FTUE sequences that teach players both gameplay mechanics and story context without overwhelming them.

  • Collaboration Skills:
Ability to work with a remote team, collaborating closely with game designers and developers to ensure that narrative and gameplay elements are tightly integrated.

Would Be Nice:

  • Experience with narrative design for games that involve educational elements or simulations.

  • Background in writing for games with strong technical or industry ties.

  • Familiarity with data-driven storytelling and player engagement analytics.

  • 3+ years of experience with at least one shipped game in a production environment.

What We Value:

  • A passion for creating stories that educate and engage players.

  • The ability to weave technical or industry-specific knowledge into compelling narrative arcs.

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to game development.
